More than 50 second-grade students from Brooklyn’s P.S. 157 in Clinton Hill gathered excitedly to enjoy some reading time with Nets superstars Josh Boone, Marcus Williams and Sean Williams, as well as the Nets mascot, Sly Fox. Nets players spent the afternoon promoting the NBA year-round campaign “Read to Achieve” by engaging the kids in the book William Is Going Green, which teaches children how to help the environment, and is part of the William the Garbage Truck and Crew series, by James Martin II. The author himself made a special appearance during reading time to speak to the kids about the importance of literacy and education, and to offer a few kid-friendly environmental tips, such as turning the water off while brushing your teeth. It was a stirring day for everyone present, as the players called each child individually to the front to assist in the book reading. During a question-and-answer session after the book was read, Josh Boone encouraged everyone to get a good education, as he personally felt he would never be where he is today without having gone to college. All the children received their own book to take home, as well as an autographed Nets pennant.
