The Atlantic Yards development will be built primarily over the Long Island Rail Road's Vanderbilt Rail Yards. Currently, these yards form a physical barrier that separates four different In addition to physically bringing the communities together, FCRC has been working closely with local community organizations and leaders to address community concerns about the development. Through this cooperative partnership, FCRC has been able to forge the state’s first legally binding Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) to secure affordable housing, environmental assurances, educational initiatives, jobs for minorities and women, job training, plus a commitment to develop community facilities and to work with local businesses and suppliers. Eight local community and advocacy groups signed the CBA and over 200 community leaders and organizations have affirmed their support for the landmark agreement. In addition, FCRC has attended numerous community hearings and meetings, as well as other smaller meetings with local leaders, community groups, elected officials and members of Community Boards 2, 6, and 8. FCRC also presented the project to the New York City Council on two separate occasions, both of which were open to the public.
