Nets Bringing it to Brooklyn

Basketball ClinicsThe Nets and Forest City Ratner Companies are "Bringing It to Brooklyn" with free basketball clinics for Brooklyn kids. The clinics feature guest speakers who teach kids the proper techniques for dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding and other basketball fundamentals as well as coaching kids in how to make the right decisions in life off the court.

FCRC created the basketball clinics in 2005, and the series has already reached more than 3,500 Brooklyn kids and sponsored over 40 additional basketball events across the borough.

Clinics are divided into various stations that each deal with a different element of the clinic curriculum. For example, kids may start the day learning the best way to shoot a free throw from a current or former Nets player, and then move on to a classroom-like setting where educators discuss age-appropriate topics such as keeping a positive attitude, general life lessons, dealing with peer pressure, how to maintain healthy nutrition, how to set and reach goals, work ethic and teamwork.

To sign up for a clinic or to suggest a clinic be brought to a neighborhood, please contact the community affairs office at (718) 923-8695.
