Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz

Beyond just tax revenue, Atlantic Yards will create thousands of greatly needed jobs in an area that continues to suffer double-digit unemployment in many communities. To ensure that these jobs benefit local residents, FCRC has worked with community and nonprofit organizations to reach unprecedented levels of participation by minorities and women, both as workers and as contractors and subcontractors.

As part of the historic Community Benefits Agreement, FCRC has pledged to continue its longstanding commitment to minority- and women-owned businesses by ensuring that at least 30 percent of contracts and 45 percent of all construction jobs will be held by women and minorities. As with all of its construction, FCRC will use only union labor. In addition, FCRC is developing innovative job training programs that will help unskilled residents learn trades and then work on this and future developments as union workers.
