Because Atlantic Yards will be an important part of the transformation taking place in downtown Brooklyn, FCRC sought out an architectural team that could make significant contributions to Brooklyn while remaining sensitive to the context of the surrounding neighborhoods. In 2003, FCRC chose world-renowned Frank Gehry as the lead architect of the development. Mr. Gehry, the 1989 winner of the Pritzker Prizethe highest award in architecturehas designed and developed some truly unique and iconic buildings in the past 30 years. His long, soaring forms have become recognized as a style all his own. FCRC also chose innovative landscape architect Laurie Olin to design more than 8 acres of open space. The balance Mr. Olin strikes in making public open space accessible as well as environmentally friendly has made him and his firm, Olin Partners, legendary in the field. As the designer behind Bryant Park, Columbus Circle and Battery Park City, Mr. Olin is intimately familiar with creating exquisite and functional landscapes in New York City. |
